MyTimetable 2020.5: Better time zone support and SameSite cookie handling

Posted by MyTimeTable Team

MyTimetable 2020.5 has just been released and introduces some changes in how we handle time zones and cookies.

Better time zone support

Over the last months we have been rewriting our front-end and back-end to include better support for time zones. It is now possible to choose a time zone in the settings dialog of the web interface. This time zone will be used for timetable display on the web and in the PDF, Excel and CSV exports. This update also fixes some long-standing bugs around time zones.

Due to this change, during the upgrade to MyTimetable 2020.5 the user’s time zones will all be reset to the time zone of the educational institution. We do not expect this to be a problem, as most users are already viewing and expecting the timetable in that time zone anyway.

For the time being, the mobile interface still renders all events in the default time zone of your educational institution. In the near future we will be adding a time zone selection dialog to the mobile interface as well, further unifying the user experience.

SameSite cookie handling

We made some improvements to better support the upcoming Chrome 80 browser. For some customers this is a required update to keep their single sign-on functionality working. These customers have received a separate news letter about this.

As always, our full list of changes can be found in the release notes on the wiki.
