Sydney, 17 September 2020 - Tribal Group, a leading software and services provider to the Australian higher education sector, has announced that 16 Australian universities and higher education providers will implement Tribal Submissions to meet new higher education statutory reporting requirements.
The new reporting requirement stems from the Australian Government Transforming the Collection of Student Information (TCSI) project, a joint initiative between the Department of Education, Skills and Employment (DESE) and Services Australia. It will transform how student information is collected to build a better solution that benefits both Australian education providers and students.
Tribal Submissions delivers critical student data directly into the Federal Government’s TCSI B2G API suite through an intuitive user interface to reduce risk and streamline submissions. Offering more feature functionality than just an Application Programming Interface, the native cloud based, multi-tenanted SaaS solution stages and collates real-time data and can be integrated with any Student Management System (SMS).
Tribal, along with its customers, has been working to develop the SMS agnostic submissions solution alongside other higher education and VET providers as a part of the Australian Government TCSI working group since its inception in 2018.
Now live in production and being regularly updated to ensure compliance with Government TCSI reporting requirements, Tribal Submissions will ensure readiness for TCSI go-live for early adoption in December 2020. The solution has the flexibility to adapt to future government requirements and will help providers by fully automating approval and enabling the curation and modification of single or bulk records in an easy-to-use intuitive interface, to optimise TCSI returns.
Peter Croft, Managing Director, APAC Tribal Group, says,
We are very pleased to see the uptake of our TCSI solution by each of our customers in the higher education space, including providers that use Callista and SITS:Vision Student Management Systems.
This is a significant milestone for Tribal globally and is the first core Student Management System Module to be deployed on our next generation platform, Tribal Edge. It’s a testament to the solution that our product and development teams have built that our entire higher education customer base has adopted Tribal Submissions as their TCSI Solution.
It’s modular by design and can work with any student information system, creates genuine efficiencies and will reduce ongoing TCSI compliance costs for tertiary education providers, is adaptable and agile, and provides much more functionality than an API. We look forward to working with all these institutions throughout readiness, implementation and testing phases.

Simon Stubbs, Head, Business Transformation at The University of New England, said,
TCSI has been demanding on our institution, both in terms of time, resources and cost. We are very appreciative of the support and service that Tribal have provided throughout this difficult project. They have invested heavily in the solution and worked collaboratively with all of the Callista universities to ensure that we are as prepared as we can be for the new TCSI reporting solution.
It has been challenging with Government changes to timelines, specifications and information gaps. Tribal has done a great job trying to keep on top of all this and ensuring that we are kept informed as news and updates from the Government come to light. I am confident that despite all the issues we will have a TCSI compliant solution in December and that we will continue to work with Tribal and our partner institutions to refine and improve this solution as we all operationalise the technical solution and adapt to the post-TCSI reporting world.”
Peter Corbett, Director Student Administration at Edith Cowan University, says,
TCSI has proven to be a complex and rapidly evolving environment. Having Tribal involved early with the TCSI project has given me the assurance that we are going to be able to implement what is a significant change in process. TCSI requirements are extensive and broad and Tribal’s engagement with both the Government and our university is ensuring we have the coverage required to address these requirements.
Our relationship with Tribal is more than just as vendor, it’s a partnership that checks in to see how we are progressing because we both seek the same outcome - success. Even at a time with engagement is more difficult than ever, we have all found a way to stay connected. Despite the considerable internal change we have ahead of us as implementation deadline approaches, the work Tribal and our partner institutions have put into the TCSI project gives me a sense of confidence that we have things in hand.”
Joanne Calmer, Senior Director, Student and Education Business Services at Monash University, says,
The introduction of government reporting in close to real time is a fundamental change impacting business processes, data collection, management and transfer. The Tribal solution has delivered functionality to cover the range of configurations adopted by the Callista consortium institutions (both VET and HE sectors), as well as dual HE institutional reporting as required by Monash University.
The Tribal Team has been involved from the beginning of the project, liaising with clients and the Government, as consultation with the sector has taken place. This close involvement has facilitated understanding of client business processes and the development direction set by the program. One significant feature has been the regular and open communication channel by Tribal with the Government development team.
Testing challenges have been experienced due to maturing of government specifications, evolving timelines and availability of the government TCSI system. Tribal and clients have responded to meet these challenges, aiming to deliver a compliant system ready for early adopters to go live in December 2020.”
