Last week the Committee for Geelong, in partnership with the City of Great Geelong, hosted an industry luncheon for international visitor Maurice Jones, Secretary of Commerce and Trade of the Commonwealth.
It was the first event in their International Speaker Series – USA chapter and the day got off to a great start with Secretary Jones declaring Geelong a welcoming city with a wonderful port, growing healthcare industry and strong industrial base.
I look forward to developing the relationship between Virginia and Geelong to see how we can enrich our two areas in key sectors such as trade, tourism, technology, defence, agribusiness health and international education. Maurice Jones, Secretary of Commerce and Trade of the Commonwealth.
The visit provided the Secretary with an opportunity to explore the commerce, trade and tourism links between Geelong and Virginia. Industry meetings were hosted with Winchester Australia, Deakin University, Tribal Campus, Boundary Bend Olives and the Geelong Football Club.
The City of Great Geelong is pleased to be working with the Committee for Geelong to host high-level global visitors in Geelong. Secretary Jones is a fantastic international connection for Geelong to have and has had many positive conversations with local businesses during his visit said Brett Luxford, General Manager Investment and Attraction, City of Great Geelong.
We look forward to hosting more international guests later in the year and working proactively on our international engagement.
Secretary Jones’ mission is to assist Virginia companies in finding new marketing for their products and services, as well as promoting Virginia’s tourism assets. He has visited three cities during his visit to Australia, including Sydney, Melbourne and Geelong.
