Derwen College streamlines and enhances self-assessment processes with ActionPlan+
Derwen College is a vibrant and forward-looking college committed to promoting, through personalised learning, the vocational, educational, personal and social development of young people with a wide range of learning difficulties and disabilities. Their high standards have helped to establish Derwen College as one of the leading specialist colleges in the country, recognised as ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted for the third consecutive time [latest report May 2016].
The leadership team at Derwen recognised the benefits that ActionPlan+ could bring to the college’s quality improvement cycle. As an ‘Outstanding’ college they understand the importance of carrying out robust evidence-based self-assessment and how ActionPlan+ streamlines and enhances this process. ActionPlan+ is designed to widen engagement in self-assessment and support a truly ‘live’, continuous and high-impact improvement cycle. Implementation is fully supported with dedicated onsite training from a QI specialist.
Using ActionPlan+ eliminates issues associated with using multiple Word documents or Spreadsheets to document self-assessment across all college areas through the use of intuitive and engaging online software.
For the leadership team the system provides instant visibility of the outcomes of self-assessment and the progress of improvement actions.
For teams involved in self-assessment, the ability to easily add, cross-reference and critically analyse evidence on an ongoing basis as it naturally occurs in the quality cycle removes the challenge of trying to pull together a year’s worth of evidence in one go.
For managers leading quality improvement, access to instant hard copies of self-assessment reports and improvement plans across the college addresses the administrative challenge of compiling these documents, whilst the automated alerts and reminders generated by ActionPlan+ help drive the process, freeing up time to focus on the more important activity of delivering real improvements to benefit learners.
Tribal’s Joe Thornton-Beech, Head of Insight, Quality Assurance Solutions said:
“We are thrilled to be working with an Outstanding leading college which delivers the highest quality of learning and opportunities to its students. Providing ActionPlan+ with associated advice and guidance to the team at Derwen College enables them to drive further improvements through their self-assessment and quality processes.”
Meryl Green, Director of Learning & Quality at Derwen College said:
“Earlier this year, after some excellent training from Joe, staff were motivated and enthused to write their SARs. We’ve received fantastic support from Joe and his team.
The structure of Action Plan+ ensures that we can continue to provide specific detail to support all of our key judgement statements, as well as individual framework items. We can be assured that the Ofsted framework remains current and updated timely, and we can be proactive in providing the necessary information and evidence of the outstanding support, teaching and learning we provide for all of our learners.”
We have collected all of the best practice content from our recent specialist college's event, held at Derwen College.
